Adventures of Pregnancy
By Shauntahl Belgrave-Albrektsen
Throughout my entire pregnancy I have had a good one, and continue to still have one. The only thing that has
raised the most questions for me is at the end of it.
What do I need? What will labour truely feel like?
Am I strong enough to go through it naturally? (btw yes I believe I am).
But I guess the most important thing I am learning is that
it is absolutely necessary to be very organize and prepared for whatever awaits a the next moment.
Last weekend I had been admitted to the hospital because I had severe cramping that felt much like a period cramp.
It seemed that pre-term labour was a threat. They gave me some morphine so that it could stop the contractions
because its much to early for her to come. But then they wanted to observe me and therefore I was required to
remain in the hospital for at least two nights; that is including the night I had gone in. They succesfully
stopped the pending threat however the next two days were very boring because I hadn't been prepared to go
into to the hospital so soon.
I recommend to every woman that once you hit the third trimester to pack your bags. Cause you just don't know and
you don't want to be in the hospital with nothing to do if all they are doing is observing you. If your baby comes
then you have something to keep you occupied. But if not its hard to be in the hospital. I love the hospital I have
chosen to go to; I am so very pleased with their care. But nothing is like home when all is said and done.
I reccommend to have the essentials which everyone else has also recommended to me.
For the Mommy:
slippers
socks
Sleep wear
hair supplies
snacks and more snacks
camera (esp if your baby does come)
books, magazines, games (my favourite has been sudoku)
Toilities
Nursing Pads
Nursing Bras
For the Daddy: (cause its always a comfort to have him around; at least that is how I feel more then
he will ever realize)
Change of clothes
Magazines or books (whatever he likes)
Snacks and Drinks
For the Baby:
Diapers (though the hospital does provide some they recommend you bring extra)
Blankets
3 pairs of outfits
Cleaning stuff
Its an exciting time when you know your baby is close to arriving follow your instincts and
simply enjoy every moment with positive thoughts to keep you going.
It seems that most health care staff either traditional or alternative seem to ultimately have the best
interest at heart for you and your family, well at least I have
found so in my case. But I found that the only way for you to stay comfortable is to follow your heart
because ultimately we are all mammals and we know what is best for ourselves.
No one else can feel your pain and no one else can know what you are very capable of doing.
We are after all the only mammals that have other mammals of our own kind deliver our babies but as qualified
and as much as they are the experts they can't understand what goes on within you so tell them, they do listen
in most cases.
